OZTUG and SIG meeting
Thursday 4 June 2009
11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Gresham Computing
Today's OZTUG SIG was a resounding success. Ron LaPedis presented to us via WebEx from the US, we had 10 people in the office at Gresham watching the presentation on the big screen, and another dozen or so people connected in from their own remote locations via WebEx. Modern technology in full swing and perfect utilisation of Ron's concept of the virtual workplace. This format seems very well suited to OZTUG which covers a large geography where people often can't travel to the SIGs in person. We intend on pursuing it further for future SIGs. In fact this style of presentation delivery opens up a lot of possibilities for us. We can potentially have anyone from anywhere presenting to us. HP Product Managers, developers, or senior management, international NonStop customers who have a good story to tell, Independent Software Vendors with new solutions to market etc. We also have the ability to invite a wider audience such as customers in Singapore or Malaysia who may have an interest in our topics and their own experiences to share. It can only make us stronger as a group and we will be pursuing these opportunities. Thanks again to Ron and to Gresham for making today's event possible.
Ron LaPedis - Business Continuity
Over the years, companies have moved from high availability systems to fault tolerant systems to geographically distributed systems and storage. But no matter the technology, business continuity is all about the people. Business interruptions such as road closures, transit strikes, pandemics, and severe weather can displace employees from their workplace—without affecting your data center. Is your company ready for smaller disruptions such as workforce relocation, plumbing failures, heating and air conditioning problems, or perhaps a workplace violence incident? This session explores the issues and solutions that will keep your workforce connected, informed, and productive when an event keeps them away from the office for any reason. Like toast is not complete without a dollop of Vegemite, your business continuity plan is not complete without including the people.
