Technical Sessions

The 2006 ITUG Australasia and OZTUG Conference is designed specifically to meet the needs of the HP NonStop™ server user through the latest in technical education.

The 2006 ITUG Australasia and OZTUG Conference tracks are:

IT Infrastructure solutions:

HP NonStop Server Hardware Roadmap, Hal Massey , HP
Attend this session to get the latest NonStop server highlights and product roadmap. This presentation will provde the information you need for 2006 planning, including the new HP Integrity NonStop NS16000 server, S-series servers, disk, tape, virtual tape, clustering and enterprise storage products.

NonStop Server in Hybrid Multi-Tier Architectures, John Turnbull, HP
Lean how the HP NonStop Server may be deployed in Hybrid multi-tier application configurations, to derive teh most benefit from heterogeneous environments. Topics addressed will include interoperability modes, supporting technologies, and real world customer examples.

NonStop Software Roadmap, Mike Dowers , HP
Hear about recent software enhancements and new products. Get insight into new products, capabilities and functions coming in the future.

NonStop Advanced Architecture for Integrity NS Server, Hal Massey, HP
The NonStop Advanced Architecture (NSAA) is a new offering in the NonStop world. It's so new that we are finding new ways to describe it, new aspects of its advantages, and positve feedback from customers who are utilizing it in their applications on Integrity NS-series servers. The fundamentals that the NonStop division is famous for are showing up in exciting new forms and functions. This is the session to learn about how NSAA can make a difference in your world.

System Management Update, Hal Massey, HP
Learn about the latest offerings and strategy for manageability products. TOpics include OSM, NonStop point products, HP OpenView and web-based management and partnering for customer choice.

Availability Best Practices, John Turnbull, HP
Application and system availability can be greatly improved through the use of best practices. This talk gives an overview of areas where best practices should be applied, along with specific examples of best practices from some of our most successful customers.

Business Applications Solutions:

A Real SOA Strategy and Implementation, Mike Dowers, HP
A real world story of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and implementations based on several real customer examples drawn together into a simple explanation of what worked and why. This presentation focuses on details set into a large scale context for success in building and exposing services from NonStop customer applications. This presentation covers why the different customer applications were successful, why they performed well on NonStop and what lessons were learned in implementing them. The key message is focusing on the building and exposing correctly over different transports SOA before architecture is lost in the maze of higher level more abstract aspects. All examples are running now and come from Telco, Banking and Healthcare. The examples are presented together in a cohesive single story to show the quintessential aspects without loosing the key points in fractional anecdotes. The single story shows what is possible when the practical lessons are learnt first. This presentation was given at ITUG Summit 2005 in San Jose.

Application Middleware Update, Sriharsha Marasimhan , HP
Hear about the latest versions, new features and functions of application middleware available on the HP NonStop Server. Products covered will include TS/MP (Pathway), RSC, iTP WebServer, NonStop CORBA, NonStop Tuxedo, BEA WLS, NonStop Server for Java and IBM MQ Series.

Managing NonStop Servers with HP OpenView , Mark Washeleski , HP

Implementing Active / Active Systems, John Turnbull , HP
Active / Active systems distribute applications over multiple cooperating nodes. They have availabilitieis that are orders of magnitude better than single-node systems with a cost often less than that of a standards disaster recovery configuration. The cost savings come primarily from the fact that there need be no unused network capacity sitting idle, ready to take over in the event of a fault. In addition, nodes within the application network can be added or upgraded with little effect on the application services being provided to the users. Furthermore, Active / Active systems solve the tape backup / restore dilemma (i.e. recovery after failure) which is becoming untenable as database sizes approach terabytes. A primary consideration for Active / Active systems is keeping the databases at each node in synchronism. For co-located systems, this can be done via network transactions. For remotely located systems, network delays preclude network transactions. These delays are overcome by using data replications instead. Though most applications lend themselve to Active / Active architecture, there are some limitations which may make certain applications inappropriate. There are also cost factors which must be considered, including multiple databases, software licenses, networking, staffing and facilities. One target of this presentation is those skeptical of the effectiveness of Active / Active applications.

New Options to Secure NonStop Systems, John Turnbull, HP
This session will provide a security update, including the status of the ITUG enhancement requests from previous years and new features on the Safeguard roadmap. It also will cover best practices for minimizing and controlling use of the super, super user ID.
