Managing Huge (100+) Replication Environments
Jon Healey, Senior Technical Consultant, SunGard Securities Processing
This presentation relates how replication benefits SunGard and its customers, how it is used and the challenges that were met in order to successfully implement, manage and monitor a significant number of replication instances (threads) in a heterogeneous platform and database environment. The majority of these threads replicate from a database of record on one of seven NSK platforms. A we approach 100 threads we have instances of almost every supported platform and database including NSK, Windows, UNIX, LINUX, AIX & Solaris platforms and MSSQL, Sybase, Oracle & DB2. Both SQL/MP and ENSCRIBE database tables/files are replicated. The emphasis will be primarily on tools, techniques and best practices on the NSK side of the replication, although a "high level" overview of the open side components will be reviewed briefly.
Bank-Verlag's Authorisation Centre Moved to Integrity NonStop
Wolfgang Breidbach, Bank-Verlag
In 2004 Bank-Verlag was running the Authorisation Centre on 2 S-Systems, an S86006 and an S72006. During the days before Christmas the S72006 had to work with very high load and it was obvious that we had to upgrade the system before December 2006. Because of that Bank-Verlag decided to be one of the participants in the Itanium EAP. So during several months we had the chance to test the new system and find out the advantages and, of course, the disadvantages.
We had two possibilities; either migrate to Integrity NonStop or do an upgrade to a S88000-system.
In October 2005 Bank-Verlag decided to migrate all 4 systems to Integrity Nonstop, 2 systems in November 2005 and the other 2 in January 2006.
The presentation will give some information about the results of our EAP tests and the reasons for the decision. Afterwards the migration itself is presented, the timeframes, the preparations and our experiences. Attendees will see that it is possible to do the migration in hours depending on the amount of data to be moved to the new system. The migration from S-series to Integrity NonStop is compared against the migration from K-Series to S-Series. The presentation will primarily focus on the organisational aspects of the migration.
